“Our bodies were printed as blank pages
to be filled with the ink of our hearts”
― Michael Biondi
I came across a couple of videos this week that I think every woman who is struggling with body-image (which is many of us) and self-love should see. Colbie Caillat, and John Legend have both came out with a video about beauty and who and what define’s it.
Everything we carry within and on ourselves is part of who we are… someone, somewhere (or the collective) decided freckles, fat, cellulite, baldness, etc. is something to be hidden. We are determined to use tons of makeup to make ourselves look and feel better. I have to admit, putting on makeup or clothes that feel good and look good on my body boosts my self-image, however, when it gets to the point of having to hide everything about ourselves because the outer world uses Photoshop to make even the prettiest of pretty even more pretty. something is wrong.
Miss Caillat says it perfectly in a recent interview (see full interview here)
What is the hardest part about being a female in today’s society?
Trying to live up to other people’s expectations. When we do get dolled up, we get more compliments. It’s just what happens. When you have a cute outfit on and your makeup looks amazing, the first thing people comment on is your image. When you don’t wear makeup, you hear things like, “Oh wow, you look tired or you’re so brave for not wearing makeup!”
So with no further ado, here is Colbie Caillat’s new song and video Try, followed by John Legend’s newest You and I (Nobody in the World). I would love to hear your impression of both these videos, so leave them in the comments.
