A few weeks ago, I prompted you, my readers to tell me your story. What did it take for you to go from “not being so happy” to “creating your own life”.  I received one answer, and it is from my long time online friend:  Caren Schmidt.  Caren and I have known each other online for over 3 years now. I have watched her grow, change, evolve, move and blossom into strong, independent and beautiful woman.  Her story, is unique, and I am very excited to share it with you.

Caren will receive the book:  The Magical Path by Marc Allen for her participation in this prompt! Yay!!

Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls. – Joseph Campbell

Have you ever been asked the question, “Where do you want to be in five years?” or “Do you have a five year plan?”  I have heard that question and been asked it so many times and every time the answer was the same, “I have no idea”. I had no idea what I wanted to do or where I wanted to be. Fate, if you will, has a funny way of determining what will be.

I am a Certified Health Practitioner and Life Strategist. The very words in writing still sometimes shock me. It wasn’t long ago, about five years or so, imagine that, I was living a life I would hardly recognize today. I was living in a major city, enjoying all the luxuries that restaurants and bars had to offer. I was selfish and narcissistic. I was always putting myself first. I was moving through my days and nights unaware of where I was going in life. My life had become routine and without purpose, only I didn’t know it didn’t have purpose.

It was about that time that I decided to start writing a blog. It became sort of a lifestyle blog about my single life in the City and my views on everything. It was also around this time that I found an online community that would turn out to change my life. I was doing an event at my current job and met a woman who would forever change the path I was on. Through random conversation we became acquaintances on social media. That one connection led to another and I found this group, or did it find me?

It was in this group that I discovered my spirituality and my passion for writing. I kept this part of my “new” life a secret, it certainly didn’t fit with the group of people I was hanging out with. After several months of living this dual lifestyle I knew things had to change.

And change they did.

I left the City and moved to the suburbs to live near my family. I went back to school and became a Certified Health Practitioner and Life Strategist. I am the polar opposite of who I once was. I have a purpose, and a message to share. I finally realized what was missing in my life and that was a life of service. Remember five years ago the only service was to myself and very self-serving.

I am living a life that is more fulfilling than I could have ever imagined. I work with women to create lasting change in their lives. I find joy and gratitude in others successes. I love being a catalyst for their change. Living a life of purpose has taught me a whole new way of living. The connections and people in my life are my teachers. I am forever grateful to the woman I met that night so long ago. My path is more clear and I am living my life in bliss. A transformation that allows me to help others transform. So in the words of that long gone narcissist…Yay me!!
