Book Review: Jeremy’s Adventures: Miracle on Main Street, by Lawrence H. Sola. Published by Friesen Press
“Here’s to freedom, cheers to art. Here’s to having an excellent adventure and may the stopping never start.”
― Jason Mraz
Once upon a time, a 10-year-old boy named Larry wrote a story about a Toy Soldier who prevented a Toy Shop from being robbed. He loved it so much he stashed it in a special place, never to be lost. 35 years later, he opened his mailbox and in an envelope addressed to him, the story came alive.
His mother (and biggest fan) was cleaning out the basement, found the story and mailed it to him. Today this story has merged with another story roaming around Lawrence H. Sola’s mind. It is Jeremy’s Adventures: Miracle on Main Street.
This wonderful children’s book is a tale of inspiration, friendship and adventure. Jeremy, the main character, find’s it difficult to accept that the Toy Shop on the old yet familiar Main Street may close its doors, thus, he pairs up with his friend Amanda. Together, they set off on a grand adventure. The two make quite a pair. Amanda is independent, a tad cheeky, and daring. She is willing to accept, with reservation, Jeremy’s stories and goes along for ride only to be dazzled herself. Jeremy never gives up, has faith, courage and compassion for what is truly important to him.
As I read, I found myself embarked on my own adventure, wishing upon every star that Jeremy’s wish would come true. Also, it made me think, as an adult, that maybe, just maybe, it is time I focus on my own “main street” and shop local. Not only does this book have a message young readers which Mr. Sola described in our last interview as: “positive thoughts bring positive results, and never give up on your dreams.” as I describe above, there is a message to us, old and young, “take care of those around you”.
Lawrence H. Sola, writes in a way adults could appreciate, yet take in a young child in an instant. This book brings back old-fashioned values, and as I mentioned the importance of our local mom and pop shops, especially this time of year, when Christmas toy shopping is rampant. We love to see our heroes win, and like many stories, this one too has a happy ending.
Yet, don’t let me spoil the rest. You can find Miracle On Main Street right on time for the Holidays by clicking here.
