She’s a writer. Poet. Artist. Intuitive. Playful, Creative. Energetic. In love with Life.  Thus begins Sylvia van Bruggen’s bio on Amazon. I have known Sylvia online, for just over a year now, I have watched her play around, be serious, enjoy.  I have read her blog posts, Doodle Interviews. I have seen her art, poetry, and love for life.  I agree!  Sylvia van Bruggen is one of the most playful souls I have met, yet, she is also an intellect, a bookworm and author.

The following interview focuses on Sylvia, her work and her book The Soul Body Connection:

What kind of animal describes you best and why?

I think I am a monkey. I love to play and be all mischievous.

Tell us your latest news? What are your current projects?

I am working on two books, the one is an e-book based on my Ego Bustings, the second is a novel called Mars Resistance.

When did the writing bug bite you?

As a child! I first got a poem published at age 9.

What inspired you to write The Soul Body Connection?

The book is based on a lecture I gave in my yoga teacher training. I so loved the subject that I knew that it had to be a book. I used the cue cards to write the book. When I started to write, a lot of things came up suddenly that just fit into the book. I love how that works.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?

Yes! There is a very clear message on how fear muddles your spirituality, and how it keeps you from finding the stillness you need to follow your passions completely.

What book or books have most influenced your life most?

There are so many, the first book that comes to mind is Illusions by Richard Bach. I so love the miracles in it and the gorgeous sayings that I keep quoting often.

What book are you reading now?

I read a lot, so that changes a lot. The one constant over this year is A Course In Miracles, by Helen Schucman .

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I would add play. It is the missing link for me. When there is playfulness, fear has no grip and there’s only joy.

Can you share a little of your current, Soul Body Connection, work with us?

Jason Hickey

This is a story I told my nephew. It is one of the many other things that “came up” as I wrote the book.

Your soul is like a bright lightbulb. When you get angry, it is like placing a red sheet of glass in front of the light. It is the same light, but it gets doused, filtered by the red color of anger. Other thought patterns and emotions do the same thing. They block the clear light from your soul. And then , when you do get angry, you don’t see that you are a clear light, you don’t hear your soul talk. All you feel is that you are angry, and all the emotions that come with it. Not only anger does that, but what lies at its root does that too.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?

My mind. It runs 20000000 miles a minute at times. I usually play, create art or watch a TV-show I know.

Who designed the cover of the Soul Body Connection?

I did. The artwork is mine too, entitled angel.

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

Getting out of my own way and publishing it already!

Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

To follow my passion, to keep writing, and to know that when I am not writing, fear is lurking somewhere.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Tell the story you are passionate about and let your passion shine through in your words. Be bold and set yourself free through your words!

What would I find in your refrigerator right now?

veggies, some lemonade, some condiments, soy milk and deserts.

If you had to choose between riding your bike on a mud path in the rain, or walking up a sandy mountain in the heat which would you choose and why?

The first 🙂 heat and I don’t like each other much!

If you had to give yourself a “theme song” what would it be and why?

The first song that comes to mind is Christina Aguilera’s Soar.

How would you describe your life as a “headline” for a newspaper?

Good question! Thinking and thinking and thinking some more….

Sylvia van Bruggen used play to overcome obstacles and writes up a storm!”

Describe your writing space?

I have an office, all purple, with a big black desk with shelves above, a cabinet and two book cases

What would we find in your junk drawer right now?

Don’t have one, because junk drawers tend to have a lot of junk and not what I am looking for.

If you found a genie in a bottle, what would your 3 wishes be?

hehehe cool question! The first would be great health for me and my loved ones, the second would be the new Macbook Air, because my current laptop really needs replacing, the third would be a restored medieval house in the Dordogne.

How can we purchase your books?

The Soul Body Connection is for sale on Amazon.com. More info on all the other books I have written on my blog 🙂
