Switched In Death – Interview with Sherry Foley

“Good fiction creates its own reality.” Nora Roberts

Author of the Week Sherry Foley has graciously agreed to an interview with Muse In The Valley.  On her website bio she states her love for writing began with winning a poetry contest. She writes:  “In high school, I won a poetry contest and have never forgotten the thrill of writing something that made others laugh.  Bless my creative writing teacher, Mrs. Jacobsen’s heart. To this day I can hear her say, “Well, write about it!””  You can read the winning poem here.

Self-described as a “romantic at heart” Sherry decided to take her teacher’s advice and “write about it”.  She has received an honorable mention for her book A Heart On Hold in the 2009 Fab Five Contest, she is obviously a writer out there to win your heart.  You can see her books and award on her book page.

Sherry’s most recent book, Switched in Death, is now available on amazon.com.  Here is our interview:

Tell us your latest news?

I have a trilogy coming out. The first, A Captive Heart, will be released in November.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When I was asked to attend a book club and they all walked in with my book in their arms and were excited to meet me

Do you have a specific writing style?

Quirky.

In your opinion, what do you find most challenging in the “writing world”?

Finding the time to take dictation for all the voices in my head.

What book or books have most influenced your life most?

Linda Howard’s Heartbreaker, Nora Roberts MacGreggor Series and anything by Shannon K. Butcher

What book are you reading now?

The Conspiracy Club by Johnathan Kellerman

What are your current projects?

I’m working on a detective series.

Do you have a writing “ritual”, “good luck” charm, or muse?

I write every day to keep my head in the story, connected to my characters and make sure my writing muscles stay strong. I don’t want to lose momentum.

Can you share a little of your current work with us? Tell us about Switched In Death?

Switched in Death shows you how making fun of someone can really do damage to that person and how the mind can justify any action. The serial killer is more than twisted and no one is safe. The killer kills two women at a time and switched their heads for a specific reason that baffles many but makes perfect sense to him. There is also a lot of quirky humor which many haven’t expected to find in a serial killer book.

Who designed the cover?

Jessica Kristie of Winter Goose Publishing. She did a beautiful job and was great to work with. The cover has a leathery feel to it that is wonderful.

What is the most important thing you have learned since you began writing?

To always keep the reader in mind.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

To those starting out: Don’t let anyone rob  you of your dream. To those farther along: Always write with passion.

Where can we buy your books?

Amazon.com  Barnes and Noble

Fun Questions:

If we dumped your purse right here and now, what would we find?

My wallet.  A folder with bookmarks and stickers that say “Autographed Copy” a business card holder. Burt’s Bees Chapstick. And my favorite Cross pen. A very large paperclip that I collect receipts in for my taxes.

What is the last movie you have seen? Thumbs up or Thumbs down?

Man on a Ledge.Thumbs up.

You have been chosen for the front page of Forbes Magazine, what is the Headline?

“Sherry Foley The author of her destiny!”

Your pet peeve?

I’m not fond of it when people walk behind my car while I’m backing up.

Sherry Foley has always had a wild imagination which she has used to craft inspired pieces of fiction that often border on the disturbing. While her creative mind races forward, she keeps her feet planted in Missouri with her husband and three teenage children.
